Cozumel Dive Trip (August 24-27, 2001):
Yet another weekend dive trip to Cozumel, Mexico. What can I say... overall, you just can't beat Cozumel.
This trip's participants were: Jeffrey Lorance, Ed McCombs, and of course myself. This was Jeff and
Ed's first real dive trip (they got certified just prior to the trip). I think it's safe to say they
weren't disappointed with the diving.
Resort - We stayed at Iberostar, an all-inclusive resort
on the southern end of the island. While it made diving very nice (short boat trips), it made the treks
back and forth to town a pain. Also, the resort is clearly more of a couple-oriented type place.
Dives - This was another 5 dive trip. Two dives Saturday morning/afternoon, one night dive Saturday
night... then two more dives Sunday morning/afternoon. All were excellent. No big rays this time, but
we did see the classics: barracuda, groupers, crabs, lobsters, eels, and octopus. We managed to see
2 nurse sharks and 2 turtles as well. On Saturday we hit Columbia reef and Sunday we did Palancar. Based
on my trip back in June, we decided to use the same dive shop:
Alex & Alex (aka Blue Angel). Paul Anderson had
recommended these guys for the June trip (he'd used them several times before), and it was an excellent call.
This trip sealed the deal for me, and I will definitely use these guys for all my future Cozumel trips.
They really went out of their way to set us up.
As usual, I didn't take a whole lot of pictures... fortunately, Ed also brought a camera and managed
to snap a few additional shots.
